Swim Meet 101

Swim meets are a lot of fun and a lot of work.

Please make sure your child has a few towels, goggles, water to drink, warm clothes to throw over suit in between events.

Swimmers will all sit in an area near the fence together so card games, and other things they can have on hand to help keep them busy is a great way to pass time in between events.

  • We ask that all swimmers are paying attention to event numbers to ensure no events are missed

Parents who sign up to time the meet or work concession can check into designated areas as they arrive and wait for instruction.  We welcome parents who are willing to help set up for home meets to arrive at the pool around 3:30 as it is a process to get the meet set up before everyone arrives.

Parents are key to helping meets run smoothly, we ask that parents who aren't in the concession stand or timing be aware as to what event is in the pool to help coaches ensure children are behind the blocks.

Relays for little ones get hectic we ask the parents are stepping up to ensure everything runs smoothly and that your child is where they need to be

Swim meets usually last around 3+hours depending on the amount of swimmers attending.

      LOYALSOCK SWIM MEET PROTOCOL

      BEFORE THE MEET

  • Arrive at the pool 20 minutes before warm up begins
    • If you are not at the pool 20 minutes following the start of warm up coaches might have to scratch you from the meet as that all scratches have to be in 30 minutes after warm up has started

  • Swimmers will complete the dryland warm up as a team
  • This allows for team building and for the younger swimmers to be mentored by the older swimmers
    • During this time swimmers should be getting their events written down on their hand, events will be hanging on the fence in the team area.  We ask that older swimmers and parents assist younger swimmers write their events
  • Warm up will be given to the swimmers by the coaching staff
    • Warm ups are a time for swimmers and coaches, parents should drop swimmers off and report to spectator area or volunteer area.

MEET STARTS

  • All swimmers should be seated in the same section together not with other teams or their parents that way coaches can find them easily. Parents are more than welcome to sit on the outskirts of the team area
    • The team area is to help foster a team environment and build friendships
  •  Before your child swims, they will see their Coach who can usually be found pool side
    • This is a time where the coach give a quick pep talk, remind them of specific instructions, and remind them to swim fast and most importantly have FUN!
